DEER PARK, New York: Police have captured an 8-foot Burmese python which was found on the driveway of a resident's home.
Police report receiving a call from Frances Hughes on Sunday, after she spotted the snake on her driveway.
Arriving at the home, Suffolk County Police Officers Argand Reyes and John Angus were able to grab hold of the snake, place it into a trash can and deliver it to a local veterinary clinic.
The snake, a Burmese python, is a species that is not legal to keep as pets in New York state.
Hughes said after the incident she went door-to-door in her neighborhoods to find the owner of the snake.
"I don't think anyone is going to claim it if you are not allowed to have it," she told bronx.news12.com.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is investigating the incident.
