Palestinian police officer who knifed Israeli soldier apprehended

A Palestinian police officer has been arrested after allegedly stabbing an Israeli soldier, who subsequently died.

Israeli army non-commissioned Officer (NCO), Sergeant 1st class Ihab Chattib (pictured) was killed Wednesday when a Palestinian man approached the soldier who was sitting in his car at the Tapuach Junction, just south of Nablus.

Chattib, who had his car window open, was stabbed in the chest. He drove off to avoid further wounds but lost consciousness. His car careered out of control and eventually rolled over.

The soldier was treated at the scene and then rushed to hospital by ambulance, however he died on the way.

A civilian security officer from the community of Rehelim drove at the Palestinian in an effort to run him down. He was brought down with light injuries and apprehended. He was later named by Israeli security forces as Mahmoud Yusef Nimer Hattib, a Palestinian police officer.
