Haryana signs agreements for 3,044 MW of power

The Haryana government Thursday signed its biggest-ever power purchase and power sharing agreements with various private and public sector companies. The agreements will bring 3,044 MW of power to the state for the next 25 years.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the signing of the agreements for 3,044 MW of power would help the state cross the milestone of targeted additional 5,000 MW.
The state's two power distribution companies, Uttar Haryana Bijlee Vitaran Nigam (UHBVNL) and Dakshin Haryana Bijlee Vitaran Nigam (DHBVNL), signed the first power purchase agreement for procurement of 1,724 MW of power with Power Trading Corp and the Adani group.
The agreement will be for power purchase for 25 years.
The Haryana Power Generation Corp (HPGCL) also signed a share purchase agreement with the Hong Kong-based CLP Power, a 107-year-old company in the power generation sector having interests in several countries, for procurement of 1,320 MW power for 25 years.
CLP Power India Ltd will be the first ever independent power producer for Haryana. It will set up two units of 660 MW each super-critical technology thermal power plant in Jhajjar district near Gurgaon.
Hooda said demand for power was increasing by 10 to 15 percent per year. The increase in power generation capacity had also been necessitated because of this, he added.
Haryana, which has one of the highest per capita income among states in India, has seen rapid industrialisation in the last three decades with top international and national manufacturing industries setting up plants in the state.
